Join the Green Party

As a member of the Green Party, you choose how active or inactive you care to be. This may mean you never leave the armchair and take on a quiet supportive role. Or it could mean actively helping with campaigns and even standing as a candidate for election. So go on and take the plunge – Join us today.

Attend Party Conference

Green Party Conference is the place where members of the party can directly influence policy and have their voice heard. You get to exercise your democratic right to shape the Green Party.

The Green Party is democratic, allowing all members to participate in policy making and running the party when discussing and voting on policies and elections for all committees at Conference.

Policies are developed outside Conference by members drafting motions either to create new policies or to amend existing ones. Any Green Party member may vote at Conference, so long as they are registered.

Nominations, hustings, and elections for committees are held at Autumn Conference, with by-elections held for any vacancies at Spring Conference.Geoff Smith Memorial Fund
In memory of Geoff Smith, the founder member of Allerdale & Copeland Green Party, we have set up the Geoff Smith Memorial Fund to help those who could not otherwise afford to attend a Green Party Spring or Autumn Conference.

Applications can be made to the committee of local party officers via the party secretary at least two months before the conference takes place, with details of what funding is needed. Applicants will be informed of the funding decision within three weeks.

Stand for Election

There are Green Party councillors throughout Cumbria. We stand in town, parish and Cumberland Council elections within Allerdale and Copeland. We also field parliamentary candidates in national elections.

We welcome enthusiastic and committed candidates and are particularly keen to ensure candidate diversity.

Candidates must be members of the Green Party and support its main aims and policies.
